Looking for a clean, non-crazy female roommate… not a fucking lawsuit.

So. I woke up an hour ago and had the notion that maybe I better start speculating on a roommate for October, when I will be eligible for a housing allowance from work, finally enabling me to move into a new apartment. The first thing that I did was go to craigslist.org to see what kind of ad typically gets posted to that website.

I looked into the “housing wanted” category, thinking that if I were initially looking for a place to stay, I’d get examples of other people posting in a similar position here, and at the same time figure out what kind of community I would be contacting via craigslist. I got around to reading about this fair housing act and how I should try to avoid being sued by not posting a discriminatory preference. Then I did a search trying to see if this fair housing act applied to people looking for roommates–I mean, I figure if I can be discriminatory about who I date, then I should be discriminatory about who I live with as well.

Anyway, from reading the text of the Fair Housing Act I believe I am not a “direct provider of housing” (I have no place to stay yet), nor am I an “other entity” that provides some service such as home insurance or a loan that makes it impossible for someone to live anywhere should I be one to turn someone down.

So that said, I don’t think that I will be sued by any reasonable person for saying I want this and that in my roommate. Even if I do get sued… *shrug*. That’s something I’ll just not care about, since everyone’s suing someone over something stupid these days anyway. If I get caught in the crossfire, so be it.

Oh, so the potential discriminations will be: Prefer female. The one time I lived with random guys, I turned out not liking either of them that much… this was back in the dorms at UCLA. The one time I lived with a random girl, we stayed in the same place for a year and a half, and it worked out for me, even with the way less than ideal circumstances. She must have a job and not alot of drama.

And, as it’s 0614 right now, I need to stop blabbing and get ready for work.
